Reece Wepener at Judo SA Championships

Update on Reece Wepener at the South African Judo Championships being held at Vista University in Soweto. Reece had it pretty easy going into the championships making the final against the Polish National Champion an all out International affair. The fighting was hard with no quarter given. The match for the Juniors lasts for 4 minutes on stop time. Up until 3 minutes 53 seconds there was no score on either side with the cut and thrust of Judo fighting techniques at the highest level, as you would expect from such a calibre of player. In the dying seconds of the fight the Polish International Player caught Reece with a good throw which scored him maxium points. That being said it bodes well for Reece's confidence heading off to the Junior Africa's Championship as he fought so well against an International player that has had more than his fair share of international competitions living and training in Poland. Reece has decided to enter into the Seniors on Thursday to gain more fight time on the mat in his preparation for his trip.

Reece Wepener At SA Championships

Wow! what a tournament. Reece decided to enter the Seniors part of the Championships to test his skills and get some experience of what it is going to be like in two years time when he becomes a senior. This he decided after his father and Sensei suggested he had not had enough quality time on the mat at the tournament. Did he perform or did he perform, he went onto to take Gold in the U73 Kg weight division. The polish national champion who beat him in the junior section did not even make it to the medals. This has boosted his confidence for a medal at the Junior Africa's coming up at the end of the month.
