Armed Robbery in Sharonlea

There was an armed robbery in Chamfuti street in Sharonlea on Saturday night at 10pm, the family had friends round for a braai for a 6th birthday party.

They were in the lapa outside when three armed men casually walked into their property and held them at gunpoint.
The suspects had cut off two spikes off the boundary fence and jumped over. They then climbed over the electrified durawall and got into the yard, they gained access to the property without setting off the alarm on the electric fencing.

One suspect stayed with the people in the lapa, one held a gun to the homeowner’s head and one went inside the house where most of the children were (about ten kids in total - aging from 2 to 16).

They cleared them of jewellery, cell phones, cameras and handbags, they requested the remote for the gate but then refused for the homeowner to stand up to give it to them.

The suspects were in and out in ten minutes, there were three people in the cottage who were able to call the flying squad.
The family want to thank everyone for responding so quickly. The police were there in two minutes, just missed the suspects by about a minute, both Douglasdale and Sandton SAPS arrived.

The family and children went to Olivedale Clinic for trauma counselling and for some to get sedatives. Police and Councillors informed them, in an hour of this, there was a couple in Sharonlea where the husband had been shot and the wife stabbed through the hand.

In another incident, four armed men forced a Sharonlea family inside their home and loaded everything into their Toyota Fortuner before leaving. There were no injuries.
