Don your tan, red bikini and board shorts for fun day out

Brightwater Commons is once again calling all of Joburg to attend their record-breaking attempt for the largest gathering of Summer Santas on December 4, 2011 from 12 noon to 3pm. With Christmas around the corner and the Currie Cup safe in the hands of the Golden Lions Rugby team, Joburg will have a lot to celebrate on the grassy commons of the centre. Alwyn Hollenbach from the champion Golden Lions rugby team and popular singer Bobby van Jaarsveld will also turn up the heat on the day.

R10, a Santa hat and red shirt, bikini or Santa costume will give you access to the Christmas celebrations while R20 will get you entry and a Santa hat; just don’t forget to wear something red and white. A portion of funds raised will go towards The Paige Project, a charity dedicated to raising funds for children with cerebral palsy.

There will be plenty to do and see for both the kids and adults. For the children and young at heart, Santa himself will make an appearance in the Promotional Court with some treats.

Currie Cup Champions such as Alwyn Hollenbach from the Golden Lions team will also be at Brightwater in the flesh to meet fans, give autographs and photo opportunities! Don't miss this incredible opportunity to meet the boys that made us so proud and score memorabilia that will last a lifetime. A signed Lions rugby can be won in a lucky draw and a Lions Rugby hamper will be auctioned off.

As the headlining act of the event, Bobby van Jaarsveld will be turning up the summer heat with tracks from his platinum album Net Vir Jou. His unique and energetic performances appeal to a wide range of people, as do his varying genres. His shy smile and magnetic looks won't hurt either!

A performance by ‘Orion’, a newly formed duo group including Wilco Coetzer & Waldo Greeff, will captivate the audience with their amazing vocals; heart felt lyrics and original music.
Appetites will be whetted with the wide array of food available from Brightwater’s selection of restaurants and the McGinty’s beer tent will quench the crowds’ thirst. For those wanting to show off their Santa gear, shopping vouchers from the centre will be up for grabs.

Red and white summer wear with a Santa theme will be the attire for the event, which if successful, will set a new centre record. Santa gatherings all over the world have attracted Santa lookalikes to similar events, with thousands of people attending to create a buzz. Last year, the Brightwater Commons called the community to a ‘Santa on Wheels’ event and hundreds of people attended the rally dressed in their Santa outfits and riding into the centre for charity.

Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards assisting with opening of ‘The Paige Project Centre for Cerebral Palsy Children. The centre will be the first of its’ kind and will cater for all children with cerebral palsy in Johannesburg and surrounding rural areas. The facilities will include physio, occupational and speech therapy, a training centre for medical students and an educational centre to train the caregivers as to how best help their children reach their potential.

“Many people don’t know what Cerebral Palsy is, or how to deal with the condition. The public needs to be aware that it’s out there and statistics in South Africa show that it has a rate as high as 10 in every thousand live births.

This is a staggering number considering it’s as low as 2 per thousand in first world countries. Many of these children have the potential to go and live near to normal lives but, if left untreated, their situation will regress and so will their spirit,” explains David Barson, Chairman of The Paige Project.

The commons will be fenced in and all who want to join in the fun and contribute to a worthy cause need to bring their mates, family and most importantly, something red and white for the Summer Santa record attempt.
