Northridge Ladies Circle
Northridge Ladies Circle chartered 22 years ago. We do side-by-side projects with Agora which is an organisation for ladies from the age of 42 years and older. Many of the ladies who have been involved in Circle then move to Agora, still giving them an opportunity of helping their community.
We have on-going projects and fundraisers which help us make a difference in our community. Annually we have an event called Black Bra. This is an event for 350 ladies (many Breast Cancer sufferers or survivors) and we make donations to Bosom Buddies, Reach for Recovery and this year we also made a donation to Pink Drive.
Currently we are providing lunch for a primary school girl and pay for her school fees. We are also helping raise funds for the school fees of a child in high school (who resides at Hugh’s Haven). In June we hosted a comedy evening to raise funds for a 24 year old who was involved in a terrible car accident and who only had hospital cover.
He will require many months of out-of-hospital rehabilitation. On an annual basis we run the sweet stall at Firlands Children’s Home in Linden. On Mandela Day this year we donated food and blankets to FORA (Friends Of Rescued Animals).
Some of the fundraisers that we host are:
Black Bra
Quiz night
Donkey Derby
World AIDS Day Benefit Concert
Comedy Night
Some of our current projects are:
Buy a Lunch Box (Lunch for Angel)
Let’s Walk (Getting people mobile again)
Belle of the Ball (We donate dresses, underwear and jewellery, get a make-up school to do make-up and help make matriculants who can’t afford outfits for their matric dance feel like a princess for a day)
Paws Cause (Animals)
Another Brick in the Wall (Paying for School Fees)
We have a good working relationship with Northridge and Roodepoort Round Tables. We are also working side by side with Golden East Round Table on a project in Benoni.
All members give of their time to the organisation on a volunteer basis. In order for us to continue our work, as a local circle as well as a national circle, we take 15% of profits made from fundraisers. 10% stays within the circle and 5% is given to national.
LC7’s portion is then used to cover expenses (e.g. engraving, our AGM expenses) and can also be used to fund our smaller projects like our Buy a Lunch Box Project and our Brick in the Wall Fund. If cash donations are received at a fundraiser, we do not take a 15% admin fee, the full amount is allocated over to the individual/organisation.
