Support Joburg Rates Boycott Action
After five days without electricity - and a host of other service delivery problems before that - a small group of Kensington residents has launched a campaign to boycott the payment of rates in Johannesburg until the city gets service delivery sorted.
Visit the Joburg Rates Boycott web site at http://www.joburgratesboycott.blogspot.com, and sign the petition to join the campaign. We'll be paying our rates into an independently-managed trust account until the city wakes up - and someone comes down from the ivory tower to actually talk to us about service delivery in our own neighbourhoods!
Tell your friends about it too - and check out regular updates from @BoycottGirl on Twitter.
See our STATEMENT OF INTENT for more about the goals of the action and, if you're a ratepayer in the City Of Joburg, click through to http://petitions.tigweb.org/joburgratesboycott TO SIGN THE PETITION AND JOIN THE BOYCOTT (scroll down after you've read the petition to add your name).
RATEPAYERS WHO CHOOSE TO LEGALLY WITHHOLD RATES DUE TO POOR SERVICE DELIVERY HAVE ACCESS TO LEGAL ADVICE AND COUNSEL THROUGH THE NATIONAL TAXPAYERS UNION. SEE THE SIDEBAR ON THE SITE FOR DETAILS.
This applies to all rates charges: water, electricity, PikiTup, Parks Department, Johannesburg Roads Agency, everything.
