Clean Sweep
Saturday, 19 September turned out to be a beautiful spring day indeed. There was a fantastic turn out for the big clean-up led by the New Acropolis Wellness centre (cnr Vale and Oxford Rd).
Over 70 members of the community turned up and went about the cleanup in high spirits. Cnllr Alison van der Molen was in the mix, not only picking up dirt, but mending fences along the way!
The Ferndale Village Spar donated water and fruit juices to keep people hydrated whilst they worked in the heat, as well as soft drinks for the braai that followed.
Pikitup provided the bin bags for the cleanup and also followed through by collecting all the filled bags at specified collection points along the way.
Pickitup had provided 160 bin bags and there were just 10 left at the end of the day - it was a shocking sight to see 150 bags of dirt collected from the river!!!
The day ended with a braai sponsored by the Pick n Pay (Brightwater Commons).
It was an immensely rewarding day with lots of hard work, cameraderie, community building, and most importantly - the fellowship of working side by side for the better good of our own community!
Thanks to New Acropolis for making it all happen!
