CPF anti grime and crime river crackdown
The Douglasdale Community Police Forum’s Sector 4 and 6 teams will be holding a joint anti grime and crime initiative on Saturday May 8 from 9am to 12 noon at Juweel Park in the suburb of Jukskei Park, corner Platina Road and Juweel Street.
This is to call the authorities’ attention to the poor and polluted state of the park, the river, the fence and the surrounding pavements, and the impact this has on the generation of crime.
Most of the time the park is littered and overgrown, the river is never free of pollution, the pavements are messy and poorly maintained, and currently the fence is broken.
The commitment and hands on involvement of community members are needed to rid our suburbs of grime and crime. This park is one area that needs urgent and concerted attention.
Please bring your rubber gloves and plastic bags to help clean up.
Representatives from City Parks, Pikitup, JRA and the media have been invited. The city’s agencies have been requested to formalise a regular and sustained cleaning and maintenance service.
Pollution is a health risk for humans and animals, and erratic maintenance of foliage has security implications for residents – bushes and grass left to grow unchecked become hiding places for criminals. This is about the protection of our environment; the animals that live in it and the humans that would like to enjoy it, and live near it, in safety.
Douglasdale Police Station’s Director Jenny Naidoo has committed to supporting the CPF Sectors in their crime prevention and reduction initiatives. A team of her officers will be there on the day.
